Join us for talks, stories and discussion in partnership with The Liliesleaf Trust UK and the Centre of Memory and Learning at Penton Street. We will be exploring this years theme “We Cannot Walk Alone” and reflecting on the experience of the refugees who settled in Islington during apartheid in South African as well as other stories of refuge.
Speakers:
Nadia Joseph will talk her memories of life as the daughter of South African political exiles based in London. Her family were active members of the African National Congress liberation movement and were familiar with its Islington headquarters, now known as the Centre of Memory and Learning at Penton Street.
Nicole-Rachelle Moore will be talking about some of her freelance work which includes New Beacon Books, the George Padmore Institute and Education Through Culture.
Exhibition:
We will also be displaying part of the 2018 exhibition “Fighting Apartheid in Islington” in the Clock Tower Centre.
